Gee, Ain't It Grand!

Our last big hurrah in viewing natural wonders on our road trip was a visit to the Grand Canyon. One really cannot imagine the vastness and time-worn beauty until seeing it in person, and this was both Ron's and my first visit to the GC.

Here is a closeup of the unique rock formation, bizarrely named "Duck on a Rock" (sorry, I don't see it!). We hiked up along a precipice to get this shot.

And here's our obligatory selfie taken a few stops up the road. I think it was at Lipan Point:

Moran Point was a highlight for its expansive view of the canyon, so I shot video to capture the breadth and depth of beauty:

I ventured the furthest out onto the precipice at this vista point (seated, not standing!); it was very refreshing!

We drove all the way to the Watch Tower, which was closed inside so no one could walk up and see the view. (I don't know why the powers-that-be would choose Thursday and Friday to close the tower, as it seems arbitrary, but who am I to know the decision-making priorities of National Parks directors.) At least we were able to roam around freely on the grounds. I tried a few tower shots before selecting this one as my favorite:

On the lower left quadrant of the photo, you can see a tiny dark square: This is an open window that the mason built into the structure. It's about 20 inches wide and 15 inches tall. I climbed up the craggy rocks on the back of the wall and, with one hand, got a picture of the canyon through the window. I couldn't safely lean back to include the bottom of the opening in the frame, but it's a cool photo nonetheless.

I love how the sun rays are so visible in this image!

We drove the 75 or so minutes back to our campground outside of the town of Williams, which by the way was really nice. And guess what? There was a field of Brittlebush just beyond our site! The joy!

On Saturday morning, we packed up, hitched up, and started making the long journey to our final night's stay in the Calico area of California.

It is now Friday, August 27, and we are all settled into life in our solid foundation home. Ron and I played music at LaDonna's last night, which feels even more fabulous than before, as we are grateful to have such beautiful, freedom-loving people in our lives. Some friends came by for dinner and a show and we all hung out after Ron and I packed up our music gear. Feeling gratitude for all the love in our lives!

Wishing everyone lots of love and fabulousness, and I'll see you in the next blog post!💖
